Frequently Asked Questions

Treating the under-eye area can take away that tiredness look.

Dermal fillers in the tear trough region (under eyes) you can correct ageing areas of hollowness and darkness.

Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. Dermal filler also contains lidocaine which is an anaesthetic to make it comfortable when injected into the skin.

Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is responsible for attracting and holding water within the skin, giving the skin a plump and fullness to it.

Over time our body metabolises hyaluronic acid causing the skin to look aged, this is due to the loss of firmness and lifting within the face. Sunken and sagging skin are the key features of ageing causing loss in volume.

Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is the most common procedure to correct this problem with typically little downtime and a fraction of the cost compared to a fat transfer into the face or a facelift.

Most clients are candidates for tear trough dermal filler; however, tear trough treatment is the most difficult treatment to perform.

The reason for this is that it’s such a precise treatment in an area that has no room for error, making it more difficult is that it is very shallow region under the eyes and has the highest probability of all treatments of bruising.

Being suitable depends on multiple factors of anatomy including fluid retention under the eyes, the depth of tissue, blood vessels, skin integrity and other systemic issues with health.

During the consult you will be able to discuss your medical history.

This will help your doctor to advise on the best treatment for you.

You will not be able to have tear trough filler treatment if any of the following apply to you:

Pregnant or Breastfeeding.

Signs of skin infection.

Systemically unwell patient.

Patients without authorisation from their treating specialists in certain medical conditions.

Previous allergic reactions.

Under the age of 18 years.

Doctor believes you will not be suitable for treatment.

Doctor believes it will not meet patient’s expectations.

Initially during the consultation, your doctor will discuss dermal filler treatment options and outcomes, making sure you are a suitable candidate for tear trough dermal filler.

If you would like treatment during the consultation this can be done.

Depending on the area and the facial structure a needle or cannula may be used.

Generally, tear trough treatments are not painful by either cannula or needle.

All types of dermal fillers in clinic have lidocaine (numbing) within the dermal filler to make it comfortable as well.

Treatment takes between 15 - 30 mins.

Tear trough dermal filler treatment have the highest probably of bruising from needle procedure due to the capillary network under the eyes, whilst the cannula does not.

The cannula has a higher risk of migration causing puffiness under the eyes due to water retention. This can be corrected with hyaluronidase (dermal filler dissolver). The puffy looking skin (fluid retention) can happen at any time even weeks or months later, if this does occur, please contact us and we can correct it. It is not an emergency; however, it is not aesthetically pleasing. (We believe it is important for our patients to have a good understanding of the most common adverse effects). This is so you know what to look out for and what to do if it does occur. At the end of the day if you have any questions or concerns, we are here to help, even if we did not do the treatment. We want to help our local industry and be supportive to all patients and clinics.

After the injections are completed, the doctor will discuss aftercare and how to contact clinic if you have any questions or concerns.

We recommend no heavy exercise, alcohol for at least 72 hours after treatment.

No skin treatments or goggles for at least 2 weeks post treatment.

We offer free follow up on all treatments within the clinic, however extra product may incur a cost to patient at follow up.

If we performed the dermal filler, correction with hyaluronidase (dermal filler dissolver) is free of cost. If we have not performed the treatment, it is $400 per treatment.

In real life no pictures on Instagram or Facebook can justify the results of a good tear trough treatment. The results speak for themselves, people look fresh and rejuvenated to the point they look more like themselves after the treatment than before.

I have lost count how many times patients have tried expensive eye creams and PRP injections without any evidence of improvement, for this reason we do not offer those services. We are results driven and honest.

Results are variable amongst all patients; however, the doctor will not perform the treatment if the doctor believes it will not meet the patient’s expectations, this is difficult to predict.

Some patients will require two treatments at least 4 weeks apart for best results, most patients only need 1 treatment which is 1ml of tear trough dermal filler.

Tear troughs are the most difficult treatment as stated before due to anatomy and the limited room for dermal filler.

It's the most likely area to bruise on the face and it is also the most likely area to create water retention and puffiness compared to other dermal filler treatments.

Knowing all this, we see many patients every week requesting tear trough dermal filler. Most of the patients don't have adverse effects and are the happiest out of all treatments in clinic with the results.

The under-eye area is one of the most disliked areas on patient's faces, especially when they are repeatedly asked if they are tired, or they look sick and they are feeling well and rested.

Tear trough dermal filler last approximately 1 year, although I do see patients and it last up to 2 years without need for second treatment.

Tindal effect is a bluish colour that can happen months or years after dermal filler int he tear trough region, even sometimes migration forms he cheek region. This bluish colour in the region is dermal filler that has move superficially, it is treated with hyaluronidase.

We offer free follow ups to all patients treated within the clinic with our doctor who performed the treatment. Patients who we have not treated are also welcome, but the fee is $400 per treatment to dissolve dermal filler.

Bottom line is….

Make sure you do your research with all treatments especially tear troughs, they are the most technical treatment and it's sad to see patients present our clinic with difficult corrections. We are happy to see everyone, but it does come at a cost if we did not perform the treatment.

Tear trough dermal filer treatment adverse effects and complications, firstly this is the most difficult treatment area.

The most common adverse effects we have seen in the tear trough treatment include

The chance of bruising is much higher than any other treatment in the clinic. People ask how long will a bruise last? I would say most bruises heal with a week or two, however I have seen bruises last up to 1 -2 months after treatment as they slowly come to the surface of the skin (this is very rare).

Fluid retention and puffing due to dermal filler migration (moving) in the area.

Unevenness can occur if there is little room for treatment in superficial tear trough, however this is easily corrected.

Tindal effect, which is a bluish colour within the tear trough region after dermal filler, it can occur at any time. Typically, can occur months later. We have treated this numerous times from our patients and other clinics patients. If this occurs it is not an emergency, but it is not anaesthetically pleasing result. Please book an appointment and we can treat the area.
