Frequently Asked Questions

Essentially pigmentation indicates areas of the skin that have become a darker in colour than the surrounding skin, this can result in an uneven looking appearance.

Sun exposure is the greatest factor with the emergence of sunspots, freckles and other skin irregularities and unevenness.

Pigmentation can develop in a number of different ways, including freckles, sunspots (solar lentigenes), melasma, sebhorrheric keratosis and birth marks.

Pigmentation can be exacerbated by ongoing unprotected sun exposure, heat trauma, the use of inappropriate products on the skin and some medications.

Skin pigmentation typically increases as we age, the following factors increase its severity.

Factors include:

  • Skin type
  • Genetics
  • Sun exposure
  • Hormones
  • Pregnancy
  • Certain medications (including the OCP)
  • Specific illnesses
  • Acne
  • Injury to the skin (including burns and post treatment inflammation)

The Fotona Starwalker Laser produces wavelengths of light to be absorbed by the pigmented areas. This powerful light shatters the pigmentation, once broken down the pigmentation is absorbed and eliminated by your lymphatic system. Over time the pigmentation will slowly disappear.

The Fotona Starwalker laser has the highest pulse energy, this technology provides the power to remove surface pigmentation and deep vascular damage with fewer treatments.

The multi- wavelengths of the fotona star walker, enable the laser to treat a wide range of pigmentation including:

  1. Freckles (Ephelides)
  2. Sunspots (solar lentegines, liver spots)
  3. Moles (nevi)
  4. Melasma
  5. Vascular lesions
  6. Uneven skin tone and texture (our favourite component of skin)

Expertise for precise and safe laser treatments, our laser therapist will choose optimal selection of wavelengths to get to the desired depth to remove your pigmentation.

During your laser pigmentation removal treatment, your eyes will be covered with small eye shields. The laser will create bright flashes as the pulses of light are aimed at the pigmentation on the face or body.

Pigmentation removal does not hurt; however, some clients may feel heat sensation or a prickling feeling when the laser pulse contacts the skin.

After the laser treatment, the laser therapist will discuss aftercare. Typically, there is no downtime, although you may have some short-term redness to the area treated.
