Frequently Asked Questions

Frown line

Frown lines are the lines between the eyebrows caused by repetitive use of facial muscles.

As well as having an ageing effect they can make a face look worried or unhappy.

Forehead

Forehead wrinkles are caused by the action of the frontalis muscle on the forehead.

This muscle contracts when we raise our eyebrows. The raising of the frontalis muscle pulls the skin of the forehead up and causes forehead wrinkles which appear as lines across our forehead.

Crow’s feet

Crow's feet are wrinkles at the outer corner of the eyes. They resemble the feet of a crow, hence the name.

As we age the lines and wrinkle become deeper.

Eyebrow lift

Eyebrow lift can be performed by anti-wrinkle injections placed at the ends of the eyebrows to help relax those muscles. This allows the forehead muscles to now pull up the outer eyebrow up.

The amount of lift you get will vary, depending on your age and tone of the muscles that are left active to pull up the now-relaxed muscles

Lip flip

A lip flip procedure occurs when anti-wrinkle injections are places into the upper lip. This relaxes the muscle, rolling or flipping the upper lip. It is very a subtle increase in size of the upper lip.

Gummy smile

A gummy smile (Excessive Gingival Display) occurs when a larger than proportionate amount of gum tissue shows above the upper teeth when smiling.

This can be treated with anti-wrinkle treatment to lower the top lip, showing less upper gums.

Bunny lines

Bunny Lines are those pesky diagonal lines (and sometimes horizontal lines) that form across the upper nose from excessive pull of the underlying muscle whenever you scrunch your nose.

Chin

The chin can develop an excessively dimpled, pebbly or orange peel (peau d'orange) appearance.

This is due to the hyper-contraction of the chin muscles.

Masseter

The masseter is one of the muscles that helps you chew. It’s located on the side of your face and connects your cheekbone to your lower jawbone.

Anti-wrinkle injections in the masseter are typically used for:

• managing teeth grinding

• reducing jaw tension, pain, and clenching

• relieving headaches

• contouring a square jaw

• creating a balanced face shape

Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis, anti-sweating injections are a highly effective treatment for underarm sweating. Patients with excess underarm sweating will have benefit from anti sweating injections.

Anti-wrinkle treatment is a prescription medication named botulism toxin. There are three different brands used within Australia. The anti-wrinkle treatment (botulism toxin) is injected with a very fine needle just under the skin into the muscles by our trained Doctor. It takes between 3 to 7 days to notice improvement to the appearance of wrinkles and lines to the upper part of your face which has been treated. Anti-wrinkle treatment has been the single most popular treatment in Australia when it comes to reducing lines in wrinkles since 1990. This is no different in our clinic making up 60 percent of all treatments provided. Did you know the anti-wrinkle treatment (botulism toxin) is used for other medical conditions apart from cosmetic appearance? Common uses include excessive sweating (under arms), muscle spasms (cerebral palsy), migraines and jaw clenching and teeth grinding. Overall, the botulism toxin dose for cosmetic improvement in lines and wrinkles is so small, that is relatively harmless.
The benefits of anti-wrinkle treatment vary between client for several reasons including age, gender and facial structure. Both men and women get great outcomes, with reduction in lines and wrinkles. Overall, all people at any age (over 18) can benefit from anti-wrinkle treatment. Some patients start in their twenties with the thought of preventing lines and wrinkles before they start to appear, and this works well for them. As they grow older the skin will have very few lines and wrinkles. Other clients start anti-wrinkle treatment later in life when lines and wrinkles are more noticeable and they also have a great reduction in lines and wrinkles, however sometimes it might not completely remove the lines and wrinkles. The trick is consistency, 3 or 4 treatment per year is plenty. Over that year you will find better results when it comes to anti-wrinkle treatments and with consistent treatments it will last longer too. Did you know that anti-wrinkle treatment can help with tension headaches and migraines? It also helps with sweating and how make up sits on your face over a period of time (smooth without falling into lines). Overall, it’s an individual choice, we are here to guide and help you make a treatment choice that is suited to what your preference is, without pressure or a push for over treatment. Keeping it natural is our bottom line, unless you like the frozen look which is fine too.
During your anti-wrinkle treatment, you can discuss with your treating Doctor what areas to have treated as well as the results you would like to achieve. If it's your first time we recommend starting off with one area like the frown line or crow’s feet. just so you see how it goes and then next time you can treat another area too. However, some patients who have had it before or have spoken to friends may prefer to do a package of more than one area and this fine too. We also have packages for multiple treatment areas, that include forehead, frown line, crow’s feet and sometimes an eyebrow lift. Most clients choose this as it saves them money and they like the overall look too. After you discuss options and consent, your specialist doctor will map out the area, the injections are safely placed under the skin with a tiny needle. This takes approximately 5 minutes to prepare and perform the injections. Although the injections are unpleasant, they are tolerable. However, if you find the injections unpleasant, we happily offer ice on the area before the injection which helps with blocking the pain signal. Please do not hesitate to ask at any time before or during the treatment for ice, we have them prepared and ready to go in the freezer. After the injection is performed the pain subsides straight away, there is no ongoing pain. It is described as a sharp sting for a brief moment. Immediately after your treatment you will not see any difference with your facial muscles, it typically takes between 3-7 days to see a difference which includes reduction in movement in the treated muscle and lessening of lines and wrinkles. Best affect takes up to 14 days after your anti-wrinkle treatment. At this time if you require a follow up or what we call a minor touch up. You can book a follow up appointment, which is free of charge. This can be made by contacting the clinic by phone 1300 282 410 or either Facebook messenger or Instagram, (typically Facebook and Instagram are responded to quicker as the message is on hand). After your treatment you may experience some small red marks or raised skin at the injection sites, this will typically settle within 1-2 hours. If you have any concerns please contact the clinic, we are here to help and what may seem like a silly question or concern we can usually address and reassure. Doctor Bart has performed over 80,000 treatments in our clinic. We are not a training clinic or have different clinicians working on different days, we pride ourselves on continuity of care.
Pain is subjective, most clients would describe it as an unpleasant sting for a brief second or two. Typically, most clients don't need ice for their treatment, however if the pain is very uncomfortable, we suggest asking for ice and letting the Doctor know. The Doctor can place ice on the area before the injection. This helps in reducing the discomfort form the injections. After your anti-wrinkle treatment, it is unlikely to feel discomfort or pain, but in some rare cases you may have a mild headache afterwards. We suggest paracetamol if the headache has not subsided after 1 hour after injections. If you do have any concerns after injections, please contact the clinic so we can help you. Most adverse effects we have seen before as we have treated thousands of patients every year.
There are many factors that affect how long anti-wrinkle treatments last, typically you should expect 3 months duration for anti-wrinkle treatment. We recommend regular treatments at a 3 - 4 month interval, compared to one off treatment per year, regular treatments last longer due to a build-up of residual product, so you can get up to 4 - 6 months duration. More importantly the results are more natural and seem to look better as the muscles and treatment areas respond better to regular treatments. Other factors that affect how long anti-wrinkle treatments last include, gender, age, muscle structure and metabolism. If your anti-wrinkle treatment is not lasting 3 months, please contact the clinic and book a complimentary follow up appointment. As said above, follow up appointments are free of cost. We can assess the area and add additional product if required, at this time we will adjust your treatment plan for your future treatments to avoid this from reoccurring. If we increase your dose for your next treatment, this may incur an extra cost (typically $50) as you will require a larger amount of product. This will be discussed with you during your follow up treatment to make you aware of what you require in units of product to get the best result for you.
Though adverse reactions are uncommon, redness and raised skin at the site of the injection are the most common adverse reactions. Less common reactions include small bruises from injections, eyelid swelling or drooping, inflammation or pain at the site of the injection, mild headaches and sinus inflammation. These adverse effects are still quite rare and would be approximately 1 in 50 patients that we would treat. Adverse effects are typically self-limiting to a short time and correct themselves. If you have an adverse reaction please contact our clinic, so we can help you. We are more than happy to follow up on all patient's including patient's we have not treated. Cosmetic injections are injected with the outcome unknown for two weeks. Yes, there is skill involved in mastering this art, but we can all have adverse effects happen at any clinic whether its doctor or nurse led. We want all patients to feel safe and comfortable to be able to have a follow up post treatment. We have a friendly open-door policy for all clients treated at our clinic or other clinics. We ask that you contact the treating clinic first as typically they are more than happy help you. But if you don't feel comfortable, please book in with us.

All appointments are booked through our online booking portal.

Links are within the website home page and menu.

We require a $50 deposit that goes towards your treatment to hold your appointment for you.

We kindly ask if you need to change your appointment or cancel, to please give 24 hours’ notice prior to your appointment.

If you require a follow up appointment for a previous treatment, please contact the clinic by phone 1300 282 410 or either Facebook messenger or Instagram, (typically Facebook and Instagram are responded to quicker as the message is on hand).

So, you have had your anti-wrinkle treatment, and now are excited to see the results! Yes, we know the feeling, we get the same anticipation too. We kindly ask all patients to please wait two weeks before booking a follow up appointment for review. Anti-wrinkle treatment can take up to 2 weeks to settle, until then your facial muscles are adjusting to the treatment. If we treat to soon, this may create an uneven treatment leading to heavy eyelids or other facial muscle asymmetries. If this happens, we cannot take product (botulism toxin) out, and you unfortunately will have to wait approximately a week to month for results to settle.
