Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal fillers in the lip can help create shape and volume, you can correct ageing areas like perioral lines and sagging corners of the mouth. Dermal fillers can also help to reset volume and make the lips look fuller and rejuvenated. Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which are a naturally occurring substance in the human body. Dermal fillers also contain lidocaine which is an anaesthetic to make it comfortable when injected into the skin. Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is responsible for attracting and holding water within the skin, giving the skin a plump and fullness to it. Over time our body metabolises hyaluronic acid causing the skin to look aged, this is due to the loss of firmness and lifting within the face. Sunken and sagging skin are the key features of ageing causing loss in volume. Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is the most common procedure to correct this problem with typically little downtime and a fraction of the cost compared to a fat transfer into the face or a facelift.
Initially during the consultation, you can discuss with the doctorly dermal filler treatment options and outcomes. If you would like treatment during the consultation this can be done. Prescriptions grade numbing cream is applied to lips, which makes the treatment less painful. We also offer a dental block for lips at a small cost, which is very comfortable with little pain. The lips are numb for approximately 1 hour after treatment with a dental block. Lip filler is performed by injections with a tiny needle. Lip dermal filler treatment takes between 15 - 30 mins to complete the procedure. After the injections are completed, the doctor will discuss aftercare and how to contact clinic if you have any questions or concerns. You will be given ice to use on and off the lips in the following hours, this will help with reduce swelling. It most cases lips start to settle (reduction in swelling) after a few hours, in some cases it is the following day. Follow up for correction of shape of lips is available after 14 days from lip injections (may occur small charge), If any concerns please contact the clinic immediately.
Results vary from patient to patient and are never guaranteed. Every patient is different depending on skin structure, laxity of skin, amount of hollowness and size of region. All patients with 1ml of lip filler will see a difference immediately after treatment, as treatments settle the lips will look more natural giving the best result. This can take up to 2 weeks. 0.5ml of dermal filler is minimal and great to test if you want a very subtle difference. It is becoming very popular for all ages. Not many clients will want a top up of 0.5 ml a month after treatment however, this is done at additional cost of 0.5ml price. Lip filler 1ml generally last approx 6 - 12 months. Lip filler 0.5ml is difficult to know how long it lasts, due to patient’s expectations. It’s only a small amount of dermal filler.
