Frequently Asked Questions

Treating the cheek area with dermal filler, can help lift the lower parts of the face, whilst also creating a natural contour along the cheek bone.

Enhancing the cheek can give a youthful appearance, whilst not looking like you have had dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers are made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the human body. Dermal filler also contains lidocaine which is an anaesthetic to make it comfortable when injected into the skin.

Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is responsible for attracting and holding water within the skin, giving the skin a plump and fullness to it.

Over time our bodies metabolise hyaluronic acid causing the skin to look aged. This causes loss of firmness and lifting within the face. Sunken and sagging skin are the key features of ageing causing loss in volume.

Dermal filler (hyaluronic acid) is the most common procedure to correct volume loss in the face, typically there is little downtime and at a fraction of the cost, compared to a fat transfer into the face or a facelift.

Most clients are candidates for cheek dermal filler treatment, unless there is a hollowed tear trough region, which would enhance the tear trough region.

Being suitable depends on multiple factors of anatomy including dermal filler from another clinic in region, fluid retention under the eyes, the depth of tissue, blood vessels, skin integrity and other systemic issues with health.

Sometimes the tear trough is best performed with the cheek, as doing the cheek region without the tear trough can magnify or enhance the difference between the sunken tear trough and a newly treated high cheek.

This can actually make you look more tired and hollow. If you do have your cheek treated at another clinic, we ask you go there for the tear trough as we are unsure of the placement of the dermal filler, making it more difficult to treat. We believe in continuity of care as this will overall get the best results for our clients.

During the consult you will be able to discuss your medical history with your doctor.

This will help your doctor to advise on the best treatment for you cheek, tear trough or both together.

You will not be able to have cheek dermal filler treatment if any of the following apply to you:

Pregnant or Breastfeeding.

Signs of skin infection.

Systemically unwell patient.

Previous allergic reactions.

Under the age of 18 years.

Doctor believes you will not be suitable for treatment.

Doctor believes it will not meet patients’ expectations.

Patients without authorisation from their treating specialists in certain medical conditions.

Results are variable amongst all patients; however, the doctor will not perform the treatment if the doctor believes it will not meet the patient’s expectations.

Sometimes in order to do cheek filler its best to combine it with a tear trough dermal filler to reduce the chance of increasing the hollowness under the eye region.

You can discuss this with the doctor. It’s more likely to occur in older patients more then 45 years old, (but yes, we would call that age young too!) Our average age for our clients is 50 years of age, something we are proud of! We believe you are more likely to require treatment when you are over 40 years of age.

Cheeks always need time to settle, as it’s injected on the bone we can find swelling more pronounced and noticeable in some patients after injections.

Swelling requires at least two weeks to settle but can take up to 4 weeks for best results, typically the doctor can see the swelling and sometimes the patient. It is rare for a stranger to notice unless they are looking for asymmetries in the face which we all have before dermal filler is injected anyways.

Bruising can occur but unlikely compared to tear trough or lip filler treatments.

Fluid retention and migration of filler is rare too with cheeks.

Balance between cheek and tear trough is very important when it comes to best out comes

We offer free follow ups to all patients treated within the clinic with an experienced doctor.

Initially during the consultation, your doctor will discuss cheek dermal filler treatment options and outcomes.

If you would like treatment during the consultation this can be done.

Depending on the area and the facial structure a needle or cannula may be used for cheek dermal filler treatment. Sometimes it is best to treat the tear trough to get better results. This is dependent on patients’ facial structure.

We have 3 different dermal fillers for the cheek region and multiple techniques in order to get the best results for you. This is dependent on your anatomy and predicted outcomes. All 3 dermal fillers are different in the ability to blend within the cheek region.

Cheek dermal filler treatments are tolerable without numbing cream or local anaesthetic prior to treatment.

All types of dermal fillers in the clinic have lidocaine (numbing) within the dermal filler to make it comfortable.

Treatment takes between 15 - 30 mins.

After the injections are completed, the doctor will discuss aftercare and how to contact the clinic if you have any questions or concerns.

We offer free follow up on all treatments within the clinic, however extra product may incur a cost to patient at follow up.
